MenB outbreak

Due to the high volume of calls we are receiving regarding the MenB outbreak, we kindly ask patients to check their Childhood Immunisations Red Book or the NHS App to see if they have already received these injections as part of the routine childhood immunisation programme.

We are not being advised to give any additional vaccines, vaccines can only be offered to eligible people that are due.

Please refer to the latest UKHSA guidance. This is the most up to date and relevant guidance.

Thank you for your patience and co-operation during this time.

Meningitis Vaccine schedule

MenB vaccine

This protects against some B strains.

The MenB vaccine has been offered to babies born on or after 1st May 2015. Most people born before this date will not have been offered the MenB vaccine through the NHS routine immunisation schedule. You can check your child’s vaccination status in your NHS app. Currently there is not enough stock to allow primary care to give the MenB vaccine outside of the standard immunization protocol.

Young children who have missed one or more dose of the MenB vaccine can have this free of charge before their second birthday and missed MMR or MMRV vaccine doses can be given at any age.

MenACWY Vaccine

This protects against 4 strains of Meningitis (ACWY).  The MenACWY Vaccine has been offered in schools to those aged 14 since 2015. If  this vaccine has been missed , then we are able to offer a free MenACWY vaccine to those who have left school and who  are aged under 25 years.

It is especially important that university students are up to date with their vaccinations including MenACWY and both doses of MMR.
